How to adopt small, easy habits to stay healthy
There are a few small, easy things that you can do every day which will keep you fit, healthy and feeling great. Read on…
1. Drink water first thing in the morning after getting up.Throughout the day, drink filtered water: drink a glass half-an-hour before each meal, and before every beverage you drink. Your body needs sufficient plain water to stay healthy. Try to avoid bottled water. It’s usually not as clean as the water in our taps, and is horrendous for the environment.
2. When you are waiting for transport to work or school, try stretching. It gets your blood flowing and makes you feel more awake.
3. Take some deep breaths when in the fresh air. This is good for your lungs and will rejuvenate you. Don’t hyperventilate – just breathe steadily.
4. Eat breakfast. Everyone should eat breakfast, but if you can’t because of a crazy schedule, keep some fruit, tree nuts, or dried fruit close at hand.
5. Keep your shoulders back when you walk. It boosts your confidence, which in turn raises your self-esteem.
6. When you’re doing laundry, see how many times you can lift the detergent pack or bottle. Try to set a goal to lift more than your usual number.
7. Close down your kitchen after supper. Simply make a point of not going back into your kitchen after your last meal at night. Your stomach now needs to process all the food you’ve been putting into it all day long. Give it a break for 12 hours, and you’ll feel heaps better next morning.
8. Take more trips. If you need to bring the refuse bins to the road make two trips to the curb, instead of taking both at the same time. Adopt the small easy habit of parking your car as far away as possible from the supermarket. Both these habits result in more exercise.
9. Pace around when you talk on the phone. This is a small easy habit to help you focus on your conversation and stay healthy at the same time.
10. Bend at your knees and not your waist when you drop something. This is a great small easy habit to adopt for knees, thigh, butt and back.
11. Wash or sanitise your hands before eating and after using the toilet. If there’s no soap and water available, at least use a hand sanitizer.
12. Get enough sleep. Getting enough sleep is a small easy habit to adopt to stay healthy.
Small easy habits become easier to maintain. Once you’re in a healthy routine, the small easy habits that you’ve adopted to stay healthy will get easier and easier – thereby avoiding between-meal snacking on unhealthy ‘foods’.
